Winnies Socks

New Hampshire can be known to have the most rugged outdoor people of the northeast. Hunters, gatherers, hikers and builders want to tackle a day filled with exploration and accomplishment. There is no better way to end the day in your own home. The greatest feeling is to be able to run outside to get the mail and firewood or walk the dog by throwing on that pair of slippers and feel at ease.

Kara Brunetta is the maker of Winnies Socks. These unique, comfortable, and convenient slippers were made for New Hampshire residents in all parts of this great, granite state and beyond. The name was born in a place that attracts all sorts of outside activity and relaxation. Our very own, Lake Winnipesaukee.

“To me Winnies means a place of warmth and simplicity,” said Kara.

Kara is from Worcester, Massachusetts yet spent the past nine years traveling to her cottage in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. To her, coming to the lake’s region was a time for family, friends, relaxation, and growth. It especially was a time to create her pride and joy, Winnies Slipper Socks.

“I love wearing thick, cozy slipper socks. I would get frustrated every time I would have to leave the house and have to take them off. I kept thinking that there has to be a better solution…I am not a slipper person, I don’t like all the hard soles and lounging around,” said Kara.

This passion for comfort, plus her background in advertising and project management and development, pushed her to make her product known for customers who felt the same. She just knew what to build and how to build it.

“I have always been a product person and I am fascinated with it,” said Kara.

Kara began cutting up prototypes and adding to her creation. She located a manufacturer and got started. She proceeded to share how they would be made and what they would look like.

Winnies Socks is a year round slipper that is both an inside and outside attire. They are socks you do not take off and come in different styles and colors.

“What makes Winnies slipper socks unique is they come with Winnies oversocks,” said Kara.

Oversocks are stretchable, rubber and waterproof soles that connect to the slipper. Inside each sock is a magnet which allows the slipper to be connected. This does not require you to bend down and put them on. No hands needed!

“Last year I sold out of most of my inventory so right now I’m working to build up inventory so I’m in a good inventory position going into the next holiday season,” said Kara.

Her goal is to appear in more pop-up shows and come out with newer styles, colors and designs.

Winnies Socks is also extremely unique for the good it is doing to our society. For every pair of Winnies socks sold, 10% of the proceeds go towards sending children to summer camps in New England.

“This past year I’ve sold enough to send my first child to camp next summer. I’m currently exploring the best avenue to provide that opportunity and look forward to building out my camp mission program. The day that first child attends camp will be the day my life has changed,” said Kara.

Kara’s lifestyle as an entrepreneur is filled with learning opportunity and challenge. She has fun doing what she is passionate about, because she believes in it. The drive, hope, and enthusiasm in her work sheds life on those around her. Her favorite part of her Winnies journey is realizing that no matter what the challenge she faces, she will figure it all out.

“My biggest advice to someone starting out on any new venture is to have passion for the process. You need to have passion for the journey, not just the end goal. There will be good days and bad days so it is so important to embrace it all. Enjoy the journey!” Said Kara.
